ICT solutions provider, Huawei, recently announced that 45,000 if its engineers use virtual desktops as part of the world’s largest desktop cloud collaboration.
Huawei began to utilise desktop cloud technology in 2009, at its Shanghai Research and Development Centre. Since then, it has been used by more than 45,000 Huawei engineers globally.
According to Huawei, using a thin client program enables its engineers to access virtual desktops anytime, improving efficiency and work flow.
The company also said that the Huawei desktop cloud also enhances information security as data is no longer stored on each PC, but on servers in the cloud data centre.
In addition, maintenance has become more efficient as each IT engineer is now able to manage more than 1000 virtual desktops, compared with 100 desktops previously.
Huawei estimates that as compared to conventional desktop technology, using a desktop cloud can save businesses 30 per cent of a traditional investment and conserves 73 per cent in power consumption.
It also maximises the facility’s CPU with an increased 60 per cent capacity, from five per cent and reduces deployment time from three months to a week.
Huawei has collaborated with more than 300 partners to drive cloud growth and its desktop cloud is already in use by a total of 100,000 users in industries including government, healthcare, education, telecom and finance.
