The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a MoU with Philips to collaborate in the fields of lighting technology and power saving.

“This MoU will provide the latest lighting solutions, including smart lighting technology, control and monitoring of Dubai streets, footpaths and cycling lanes, as well as a wide network of roads and parks,” said Maitha bin Adai, CEO, RTA’s Traffic and Roads department. “The research teams from both parties will commission feasibility studies taking into consideration the investment and operational aspects that meet the road safety standards and the stipulations of the Smart Dubai initiative to ensure the highest possible efficiency required for implementing innovative solutions.”

She renewed the RTA’s keenness to realise the vision of the Dubai Government in creativity, innovation and shaping the future through better communication and integration between public and private sectors.

“We have got to consolidate our efforts towards leveraging the performance to better serve the community, especially in the field of scientific research,” Bin Adai added. “The two parties will seek to materialise scientific and practical experiences as well as applications on the ground through mutual technical visits, workshops and seminars.”

“We are delighted to sign this MoU which will contribute to enhancing communication, co-operation and mutual benefits with the RTA to support strategic initiatives and projects in this regard,” said Paulo Serveny, CEO, Philips Lighting Export BV. “The MoU will also enhance the efficiency in the fields of lighting technology and power saving in the emirate of Dubai as well as in other relevant projects. Thus, it ensures that investment and operational projects will be in line with the traffic safety standards and Smart Dubai standards, which echoes our strategy aimed at opening new horizons of joint development.”
