No optimisation in Dubai

On the one hand, IP09 in the UK focused very much on the theme of Optimisation, albeit was a much smaller event. Conversely, GITEX – in Dubai – is huge to the point of seeking out a motorised contraption to get around (after 5 consecutive days on our feet), but having trawled the myriad halls looking for other Optimisation evangelists, we were somewhat surprised to note – with the exception of one or two vendors such as Riverbed and Bluecoat – the topic seemed to have been largely overlooked.

This didn't put us off – far from it – in fact, by virtue of focusing upon our Optimisation Services Suite, including new 3D Modelling capabilities for enhanced visualisation of the entire IT estate, we found ourselves run off our (increasingly sore) feet fielding enquiries from prospects, existing clients keen to see how the portfolio had evolved, and journalists alike. Some of the media contingent seemed curious as to why Optimisation hadn't assumed a wider take-up, one Editor going so far as to assert that it was tantamount to irresponsible behaviour for IT decision-makers not to have explored the benefits of Optimisation until the fiscal well ran dry…

I responded explaining that perhaps the ready monetary flows of recent years had meant that asset-utilisation and IT efficiency had taken second place to tactical technology implementations in the CIO's list of priorities to support ever-growing businesses, and that this was to be expected to some extent in such a dynamic region that had experienced such unprecedented levels of growth.

Now of course, despite the lack of exhibitors leading the Optimisation charge, it's evident that IT decision makers and influencers across the GCC region are getting serious about generating maximum returns from existing IT investments prior to sending more money into the technology trenches, never knowing if it will be seen again. Along with the attention surrounding our introduction of our world-first 3D visualisation technology, a lot of interest stemmed from the launch of our first three Consulting Products under the Intergence Optimisation services Suite. This pioneering approach to consulting services was well received by end-users and channel partners alike, enabling clients to benefit from fixed costs and defined deliverables from the outset.

Suffice to say, the team is now out and about across the region visiting clients, following up multiple exciting business opportunities, so for us, GITEX has already proved a great success. We will undoubtedly be there again next year. The question is, will we be ploughing that lone furrow again, or will other Optimisation missionaries have joined us by then?
