TippingPoint offers customer filtering service

TippingPoint will announce at next week's RSA Conference a service that creates filters for its intrusion prevention gear to block potential attacks against vulnerabilities in corporations' custom Web applications.

Web Application Digital Vaccine Service creates IPS policies that remove the threat of application vulnerabilities without having to rewrite the applications themselves, which can be a more costly, disruptive and time consuming option, the company says.

TippingPoint already scans widely used applications for vulnerabilities and creates filters to protect them that it distributes as part of its mass product offerings.

The new service includes scanning URLs for vulnerabilities, advice on what filters could shore up the vulnerabilities found and then creation of the filters for deployment on a TippingPoint IPS.

The process takes four to 10 days depending on the extent of vulnerabilities found and what the customer wants patched. The service is in beta. Pricing will be a flat rate for scanning and analysis plus an extra fee for writing filters to protect found vulnerabilities.
