Cyberoam UTM brings On-Appliance SSL VPN

Cyberoam has announced the introduction of on-appliance SSL VPN on its UTM appliances. Cyberoam now delivers secure, remote access to road warriors, telecommuters, partners and customers who access the corporate network from multiple locations including home, client networks, public kiosks, hotspots over varied devices like laptops, mobile devices and home and public desktops.

Cyberoam on-appliance SSL VPN eliminates the limitations of IPSec VPNs which require expensive, time consuming client installations and lack the flexibility required to deliver secure, remote access to employees, customers and partners in today’s business world. VPNC certified Cyberoam SSL VPN with its network extension client is an effective replacement for IPSec. The certification is also a confirmation that Cyberoam works with a wide variety of web portals, browsers and dynamic websites, meeting the challenges of real-world usability and compatibility faced by other SSL VPNs.

According to Abhilash Sonwane, VP, Product Management, Cyberoam, “Today’s business environment is becoming highly mobile and open. Employees are extending their workday by carrying work home, telecommuters are rising, road warriors are accessing the corporate network from multiple locations and devices. On the other side, corporate networks are becoming more open with access to customers and partners to the corporate extranet. This calls for a highly flexible remote access solution. SSL VPN fills the need and we are happy to announce that our Cyberoam UTM range now offers SSL VPN over the same platform.”

In contrast to IPSec VPNs which require client installation on user devices, Cyberoam SSL VPN offers web-based and client-based access, allowing secure access to internal applications through any endpoint device from any location, by any authorized person. It achieves this by focusing on the ‘user’ and not the ‘device’ for authentication. The real benefit from Cyberoam SSL VPN is that it is platform, device and location-independent.

Further, it ensures that corporate firewalls do not block remote access, ensuring business continuity.

At the same time, Cyberoam’s identity-based access policies allow administrators to limit access to certain applications or offer full access based on the user identity and work profile.

“Organizations that invest in UTM appliances do so for their high efficiency, effective security and ease of management,” says Sonwane. “But with most UTM appliances not providing SSL VPN, they are forced to use IPSec VPNs available on these UTMs with its limitations. By providing SSL VPN on UTM, Cyberoam meets secure remote connectivity requirements of SMEs and enterprises.”
