DIC to showcase technology incubation, innovation and collaboration at GITEX 2011

Dubai Internet City (DIC) today announced it will bring together key technology leaders Microsoft, HP and Qualcomm and share success stories of emerging entrepreneurs during its participation at GITEX Technology Week 2011.

Innovation and incubation will be DIC’s underlying theme at GITEX 2011, in line with its status as an overarching platform for multi-tier stakeholders across the IT value chain ranging from market leaders and entrepreneurs to start-ups and seed ideas, the company said.

One of the largest ICT exhibitions in the Middle East, GITEX Technology Week 2011 will be held from 9-13 October at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

During the event, DIC will host the recently launched ‘Majid Bin Mohammed Innovation Centre in5’. The centre will encourage young entrepreneurs and start-ups to conduct demonstrations, network with key industry representatives, and connect with industry leaders.

Majid Bin Mohammed Innovation Center in5 is an exclusive incubator to promote entrepreneurship and technical innovation in the UAE. To be run under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, the centre aims to accelerate the take-off of new ICT initiatives through the creation of an enabling ICT ecosystem, DIC said.

Dubai Internet City’s 11th consecutive participation at GITEX will additionally highlight the infrastructure offerings of Dubai Outsource Zone (DOZ), representatives said.

The DIC pavilion at GITEX Technology Week 2011 will host technology giants Microsoft, Hewlett Packard (HP) and Qualcomm.

Microsoft will share its latest consumer and commercial product offerings, solutions, and industry expert networking opportunities at GITEX 2011.The cloud based Office 365 solutions as well as a preview of Surface 2.0. are among several innovations lined up for showcase at the event. A dedicated enclosure will demarcate its highly popular ‘Gaming Zone’ to provide visitors with an experience of the new gaming device.

Microsoft will also lead networking sessions on trends shaping productivity innovations, offering specific insights on ‘Cloud Technology’ and ‘Consumerisation of IT’. During the discussions, the software major will unveil the future of  IT productivity among users in a way that sparks creativity, encourages teamwork and promotes innovation — all within the secure walls of an IT ecosystem that safeguards enterprise resources.

Meanwhile, HP Imaging and Printing Group will reiterate its ongoing synergy with DIC. “We aim to create a meaningful impact on people, businesses, governments and society. HP has already achieved success with DIC’s continued support for our anti-counterfeit campaign this year and we look forward to growing our partnership with the ICT free zone at GITEX 2011,” said Amin Mortazavi, GM IPG, HP Middle East.

During the exhibition, HP will conduct an anti-counterfeit awareness campaign in conjunction with DIC. The pavilion at GITEX 2011 will also witness the launch of HP’s range of new products both in Inkjet and Laser Printing. It will showcase technologies such as the ePrint platform, instant-on technology and smart install. The new platform enables users to print from an email device on a new ePrint-enabled printer from anywhere in the world.

Qualcomm, a US-based fortune 500 company and a world-leading provider of Next-generation Mobile Technologies, will give GITEX attendees a sneak peek at the next leap in mobile networking technology – LTE Advanced. This innovative architecture enables next-generation mobile networks to deliver data service at speeds of more than one 1 Gigabit per second.

Jihad Srage, president of Qualcomm Middle East and Africa, said, “Qualcomm is pleased to join hands with DIC once again for the GITEX exhibition. In addition to LTE Advanced technology, we will be showcasing a variety of smartphones powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S1, S2 and S3 processors, designed to deliver advanced mobile features that support consumers’ mobile lifestyles.”
