Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, has approved a Strategic Plan 2018-31 for Artificial Intelligence Department at the Dubai Police, in line with the UAE’s Strategy for the artificial intelligence, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in accordance with Dubai 2021 Plan.

Meanwhile, Brigadier Khaled Nasser Al Razzouqi, Director of Artificial Intelligence Department, confirmed that the general department of smart services will now be called the general department of artificial intelligence.

As per the strategic plan, by 2031, AI methods will be used 100 per cent in all areas of police including security, forecasting of crime, traffic accidents and developing the best techniques and AI tools that serve the needs of the people, locally and globally.

It will also be utilised to enhance skills of officials to deal with AI facilities in all police departments.

The Dubai Police is among government firms in the emirate who is proactively adopting new technologies to enhance its processes and services.

In November, it announced that it has successfully transformed 100 percent of its services and transactions to smart technologies and paperless transactions as customers opted more often to pay their fines via smart applications or the website.

The government firm has also unveiled that it plans to use drones to deliver live broadcasts of traffic jams during peak hours in order to dispatch patrols to ease congestion and better monitor traffic in Dubai roads.

Al Razzouqi highlighted that the AI strategic plan 2018-2031 focuses on achieving targets like ‘Delight the Society’ through providing future policing services easily to the public; and making ‘Dubai a Safe City’ through the best use of AI systems.

Besides, the AI strategic plan will cover community service centres and its clients; criminal investigation; road security; disaster management and forensics. The plan seeks to develop AI-assisted customer service centres, smart police stations in different regions as well as “walk in” and “drive through” centres having robots.

The plan ultimately seeks to integrate AI techniques into criminal investigation in the field of forensic work, police operations, and to enhance traffic safety and road security, according to Al Razzouqi. Furthermore, the AI techniques will also be utilised in crisis and disaster management, which helps in crowd management during disasters.

The Dubai Police believes that AI techniques also ensure accuracy and speedy responses while responding to customers in different languages and the virtual applications will improve the efficiency of police officers, Brigadier General Al Razzouqi said.

The AI techniques, which are an integral part of the work system in the country, contribute to rapid changes and achieving qualitative development in the overall performance at all government levels.
