Ericsson to offer telecom solutions to Egypt Ministry of Electricity

Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity has selected Ericsson to provide end-to-end telecom solutions and services for 180 electricity sites in Upper and Middle Egypt on a turnkey basis.

Through this deal, Egyptian residents in Upper and Middle Egypt will be able to benefit from more reliable electricity services based on the highly advanced electricity sites that Ericsson will manage in cooperation with the Egyptian Maintenance Company.

Technologies supplied by Ericsson will include the MINI-LINK Microwave System, Network Management Solution, and Internet Protocol (IP) System, renovation of existing towers and construction of new towers, amongst others. Ericsson will also provide a full set of services, inclusive of site survey and preparation, installation and commissioning, spare parts management, reporting and documentation. The result will help to improve the efficiency of the electricity sites reducing energy consumption, increasing control, and increasing the lifecycle of the stations.

Mohamed Abdel Hafez, CEO Egyptian Maintenance Company said: “Electricity is a vital human need like water and air and Egyptians are facing challenges nowadays with electricity services across the country. The contract celebration event took place as part of Ericsson’s annual media Sohoor and the event was attended by Hesham El Alaily, President of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Ahmed El Hanafy, Chairman Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, other government officials, members of the Egyptian media and Ericsson representatives.
