Gartner to discuss impending digitalisation at GITEX

digitalisationGartner analysts will discuss the impact of digital disruption in the Middle East, and how businesses must adapt in order to thrive in the new digital era at GITEX Technology Week.

According to Gartner’s 2014 Gartner CIO Agenda Report, in order to capitalise on digital opportunities and ensure that core IT services are ready, CIOs must strive for clear digital leadership, strategy and governance; and help build a digitally savvy C-suite.

In order to do this, it says that proven approaches such as the use of digital nonexecutives, technology showcases, “hackathons”, reverse mentoring, and other examples should be employed.

“The growth of the digital industrial economy in the Middle East means that CIOs must deliver even more reliable and efficient operational performance, while creating digital innovation and developing digitally-smart talent,” Ed Gabrys, Research Director, Digital Business Strategy, Gartner, said. “Every enterprise – public and private – needs to find ways to survive and thrive in an increasingly digital world.”

According to Gartner, there is a fast-rising trend to hire chief digital officers (CDOs). Approximately 7 percent of enterprises have a CDO, spread across all geographies and a wide variety of industries.

“Digital leadership is not a substitute for IT leadership, but rather an adaptation of business leadership to the digital context. Clarifying the coverage and scope of digital leadership and integration with IT leadership should be high on every CIO’s agenda,” Gabrys said.

Gartner speakers at the conference will include Miriam Burt, Research VP on Retail in Middle East IT, Gabrys, and Arnold Guttmann, Executive Partner, Executive Programs on Banking and Finance, Gartner.

The firm will have a booth at S1-100, Sheikh Saeed Hall.
