Juniper names ex-Nortel exec CMO

Lauren Flaherty replaces CMO Penny Wilson, who had held the post for two years. Wilson replaced Jeff Lindholm, who had been tapped in January 2006.

Juniper did not immediately respond to an e-mail inquiring as to Wilson's whereabouts.

Flaherty comes to Juniper from a similar position at Nortel. She left Nortel along with three other high-level executives, including CTO John Roese, following a company restructuring late last year.

She served as CMO of Nortel from 2006 to 2008. While at Nortel, Flaherty is credited with creating an integrated marketing function that represented all lines of business, as well as Nortel's first Global Marketing Board, which enabled the development of marketing investments that were aligned to sales and the company's strategic objectives.

Flaherty also led many of Nortel's strategic business initiatives, including the company's global Enterprise campaign, leadership of green marketing initiatives and bids for sponsorship of the Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympic Games.

Prior to Nortel, Flaherty spent 26 years at IBM in a variety of product marketing positions including software and servers. She also led many company-wide initiatives, such as Solutions for a small planet, e-business, on demand business, and marketing targeting key segments for small-and-midsized businesses.

As executive vice president and CMO, Flaherty will oversee Juniper's global marketing activities and will report directly to CEO Kevin Johnson.
