Kingston launches wireless portable storage device for smartphones, tablets

Kingston Digital Europe yesterday launched in the UAE a wireless portable storage device that allows user to carry and share their documents, images, music and videos, and access them via their tablet and smartphone devices.

Users upload their files onto the device, named the Kingston Wi-Drive, and download the ‘Kingston Wi-Drive’ app onto their smartphone or tablet via the Apple App Store, Amazon Appstore or Android Market. They are then able to connect to the device through its built-in wireless signal and access the files through the downloaded app.

The pocket-sized Wi-Drive utilises Flash memory based technology to store data from a USB-compatible desktop or laptop. Three users can work simultaneously with different file types from a single Wi-Drive, whilst also staying connected to the internet.

“Wi-Drive allows Apple and Android device owners to wirelessly manage document and  media files, and choose to share them with others, while on the go for work or pleasure,” said Antoine Harb, business development team manager at Kingston Technology MENA.

“This unique functionality, combined with the durability of a Flash memory based device, will satisfy both casual users and the most discerning technophiles,” he added.

Wi-Drive was chosen by the Flash Memory Summit as a Best of Show award winner for 2011 in the ‘Most Innovative Flash Consumer Application’ category.

Kingston offers Wi-Drive in both 16GB and 32GB sizes, costing AED 249 and AED 499 respectively. The product will be available at select iStore and iStyle Apple Premium Resellers and select Carrefour and Harman House stores throughout the UAE.
