New free management tools for Citrix

A new tool from Citrix has been designed to help XenDesktop users gather more detailed information about the hardware that is being used.

Xnapshot provides information on such features as BIOS being used, device drivers, HotFixes installed, Windows services, Registry information and Citrix binaries.

According to a Citrix blog, the information can be gathered in such a way that users will find it easy to compare various Xnapshot collections against each other, so that changes to the environment can be highlighted using Xnapshot itself.

The tool also contains, XMLMon, a monitoring component that can keep tabs on the Citrix XenDesktop and ensure that it's functioning properly, sending an email alert if a problem is detected. In addition to sending an email alert, XMLMon can be configured to capture user-dumps of the core Citrix services.

The company has also announced a new version of its Quick Launch tool. Quick Launch 2.1 is an upgrade of a product released last year offering what it claimed was an easy way to connect to an XenApp server or its published applications over the ICA protocol.

The new version offers a range of new features including: tabs in the user interface; SpeedScreen latency, ability to delete temporary ICA file, added support for Percentage of Screen and added passthrough authentication.
