Sun brings open source storage applices to the Middle East

Based on industry standard components and Sun's open source software, this new storage family offers Middle Eastern businesses breakthrough analytic capabilities, up to four times performance increase, four times less energy consumption, installation in under five minutes and up to 75% cost savings – when compared to competing storage systems.

As the world's first Open Storage appliances, the Sun Storage 7000 “Amber Road” family features three products in its initial release: Sun Storage(TM) 7110, 7210 and 7410 Unified Storage Systems, each of which include a fully-integrated software stack with support for Solaris(TM), Linux, Windows and other leading operating systems; standard high speed networking and tape connectivity and the industry's most comprehensive management software with powerful analytics tools from the FISHworks project.

“These new systems will radically simplify the way that regional business store and access their information and deliver up to 75% cost/performance savings to customers. This is the biggest thing to happen to storage in decades,” David Beck, MENA Storage Practice Manager, Sun Microsystems, Inc. “In an economic time when everyone in the region in thinking about how to be more competitive and reduce expenses, the new Sun Storage 7000 family offers a simple way to use storage at a fraction of the cost of traditional systems and will forever change the way businesses and enterprises store and manage rapidly growing amounts of data.”

Breaking the industry trend that charges per individual storage features, all Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage Systems include comprehensive data services at no extra cost, such as snap/clone, restore, mirroring, replication, compression, thin provisioning, CIFS, NFS, HTTP/FTP and WebDAV. Due to the unique design, the region’s customers are assured of always being up to date benefitting from continuous innovation when new data services and features are available from Sun through automated updates included in each system.

Sun today also announced new service offerings for the Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage family that provide the expertise for customers to architect, implement, support and manage this innovation in their datacenters to mitigate the risk of downtime, and data loss and speed the time to ROI.

“Regional organizations of all sizes and across multiple industries – from enterprises, financial services, Oil & Gas, government organizations, mid-market and Web scale start-ups – are struggling to keep pace with today’s rapid data growth and storage management complexity,” added Beck, “The Amber Road family is Sun’s answer to our customer’s demands, helping help them simplify their operations, greatly reduce power consumption and space to deliver better economics and return-on-investment.”
