Huawei, Dubai Police partner for safe city initiatives

Huawei has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Police that will see both parties collaborating on a long-term initiative to support the vision of Dubai in creating a smarter and safer city.

Huawei Safe City solutions currently protect 400 million people in more than 100 cities across 30 countries. Under the agreement, Huawei and Dubai Police will work together to identify how innovative Huawei solutions can be deployed to aid in crime prevention and reduction, improve road safety through the reduction of accidents and fatalities, as well as share knowledge on the latest innovations safeguarding cities around the world.

“Huawei is excited to be collaborating with Dubai Police on such an important initiative that is in-line with Dubai’s 2021 vision to become a city of happy, creative and empowered people with Dubai being the preferred place to live, work and visit,” said Mr. Fan Si Yong, Vice President, Huawei, Enterprise, Global. “A core component to achieving this vision is ensuring the wellbeing and safety of residents and we are working closely with Dubai Police to share our leading ICT solutions capability and address their important safe city requirements.”

The MoU builds on the success of Huawei’s global Safe City Summit which was held earlier this month in Dubai and saw a global gathering of government leaders from the public safety and security sector. The summit provided insights on how cities around the world are deploying new ICT solutions by Huawei to protect their city’s property and assets, the safety of its citizens and visitors, and its emergency-service operations.

“Dubai Police is at the forefront of technological innovation as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai,” said H.E. Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina. “We are collaborating with Huawei to see His Highness’s vision achieved by ensuring that Dubai Police remains an innovation leader and is leveraging best-practice approaches and technologies being deployed around the world.“Huawei’s Cloud-based Intelligent Surveillance Solution works like the ‘eyes and ears’ of any safe city deployment, providing 24/7 high definition surveillance and recording with smart features like video summary, intelligent

“Huawei’s Cloud-based Intelligent Surveillance Solution works like the ‘eyes and ears’ of any safe city deployment, providing 24/7 high definition surveillance and recording with smart features like video summary, intelligent search and facial recognition, making it easy to find critical information quickly through vast amounts of video,” added Fan Si Yong at Huawei.

Huawei’s Smart Road Safety Solution is capable of automatic number plate recognition and can easily track a vehicle across a city through video surveillance. Its smart features include capturing illegal activity like speeding, running a red light, wrong turn and so forth to increase traffic safety and reduce accidents. The solution can also generate multiple reports about traffic status in city and support related departments to make better decisions.

Big data plays an important role in safe city deployments. With video surveillance, mobile devices, and social media generating vast amounts of data, command and control centers will need to interpret, analyze data so that more informed decisions are made in emergency situations. The Internet of Things (IoT) is also driving a revolution in how cities are organized, with new ICT innovation helping to solve concerns around transportation, energy supply, social infrastructure, economic stability, as well as physical infrastructure and security.
