QNAP announces Thunderbolt 3 NAS – TVS-1582TU

QNAP TVS-1582TU QNAP Systems has released the TVS-1582TU – a 19-inch rack-mountable Thunderbolt 3 NAS that is suited for moving vehicles and outdoor media editing environments. The TVS-1582TU includes four Thunderbolt 3 ports, two 10GbE ports, and can utilise its Thunderbolt 3 ports to have USB-C 3.1 Gen2 (10 Gbps) connections for high-speed data transfer and backups. The collection of high-speed connections provides an ideal 4K solution for SNG/OB van live productions in the fast-paced media industries.

“TV and film production and outdoor broadcasting require on-location recording and editing, and need their videos to be backed up immediately to prevent file loss,” said David Tsao, product manager, QNAP. “The TVS-1582TU is designed for this environment, and its 19-inch rack form factor makes it especially usable for SNG/OB van live media production that requires frequent relocation.”

Powered by a high-performance 7th Generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 quad-core processor, the TVS-1582TU features high-bandwidth Thunderbolt 3 along with 10GbE connectivity to boost media collaboration as a multi-tasking Thunderbolt/NAS/iSCSI triple solution.

The company said it is a “perfect companion” for Thunderbolt-equipped Mac and Windows users for 4K workflows, file storage and high-speed sharing. With QNAP’s Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet (T2E) technology, computers without Ethernet ports can access 10GbE network resources over a Thunderbolt connection to the TVS-1582TU to enjoy flexible and cost-effective data transfer methods.

The TVS-1582TU is a 15-bay hybrid storage solution that supports 3.5-inch hard drives and 2.5-inch hard drives/SSDs in one unit. With Qtier Technology that drives Auto Tiering, the TVS-1582TU continuously optimises storage efficiency across high-performance SSD and high-capacity SATA drives with boosted performance to empower dynamic high-resolution media and virtualisation applications. The TVS-1582TU supports 4K @30Hz through HDMI output for direct multimedia display.

The TVS-1582TU and the QTS 4.3 operating system provides an all-in-one NAS solution for storage, backup/restoration, sharing, remote access, and management. Advanced business applications include: QRM+ (QNAP Remote Manager Plus) centralised management solution for discovering, mapping, monitoring and managing critical networked devices (including servers, PCs, and thin clients) with a graphical topology diagram; Virtualisation Station that hosts Windows, Linux, UNIX, and Android based virtual machines on the NAS; Container Station to empower near-limitless LXC and Docker containerised apps and IoT development; Qfiling and Qsirch to optimise data storage operations by providing automatic file organisation and rapid file searching.

The TVS-1582TU accommodates up to 90 TB raw capacity (using 10 TB 3.5-inch hard drives), and can be expanded by connecting up to six QNAP Thunderbolt expansion enclosures (TX-800P or TX-500P) or a QNAP USB expansion enclosure (UX-1200U-RP, UX-800U-RP, UX-800P or UX-500P). The storage capacity can also be expanded by using VJBOD (Virtual JBOD) that leverages the unused storage capacity of other QNAP NAS, providing a reliable, high-capacity storage solution for the growing high-resolution media files.

The key specifications of TVS-1582TU-i5-16G include Intel Core i5-7500 3.4 GHz quad-core processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM (expandable to 64GB) while TVS-1582TU-i7-32G features Intel Core i7-7700 3.6 GHz quad-core processor, 32GB DDR4 RAM (expandable to 64GB).

2U rackmount NAS, supports 9 x 3.5/2.5-inch hard drive/SSD and 6 x 2.5-inch SSD bays, hot-swappable SATA 6Gbps/3Gbps drives; 4 x Thunderbolt 3 ports; 2 x 10GbE SFP+ ports, 4 x 1GbE ports; 1 x HDMI output; 4 x USB 3.0 ports, 4 x USB 2.0 ports

The new TVS-1582TU Thunderbolt 3 NAS is now available.
