Barracuda forays into backup and disaster recovery

Security appliance vendor Barracuda Networks has bought BitLeap, a seller of backup and disaster recovery services.

BitLeap sells offsite, managed backup and disaster recovery services as well as an appliance, called LeapServ, that can automate backups over a local area network.

Financial details of the acquisition were not released, but Barracuda said that it plans to retain all BitLeap employees.

BitLeap's products will be renamed, with the managed service now called the Barracuda Backup Service and LeapServ renamed the Barracuda Backup Server.

Based in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, BitLeap has a staff of 16.
