Mac Internet share up despite Windows 7 launch

Preliminary data released overnight by Net Applications, shows Mac OS X’s online share grew by 2.73 per cent in October, from 5.12 per cent to 5.26 per cent, despite the much anticipated launch of Microsoft’s Windows 7.

Windows 7 did gain share, on sale for 9 days last month, but overhaul Windows’ combined share of Internet traffic actually dropped from 92.77 per cent to 92.54 per cent Net Applications found, its ninth loss in 12 months.

According to Fortune, Net Applications tracks the presence of various operating systems on the Internet by sampling browser data from visits to its clients websites, some 160 million hits per month.
