TrustPort is a bit of an enigma in the antivirus arena. The most interesting feature of the vendor’s latest offering the TrustPort Total Protection software offering is the ability to choose from different antivirus engines. A number are included but additional engine licenses can be purchased.
TrustPort Total Protection offers maximum protection for your computer against malware, online threats and misuse of confidential data. The program protects the computer from viruses and spyware at all entry points. All electronic mail and Websites are examined in order to detect dangerous or unwanted content. In addition, the program enables the reliable protection of sensitive data by encryption or the permanent shredding of confidential files no longer in use.
Other features included with TrustPort Total Protection are typical of most antivirus packages:
· Antivirus and antispyware
· Internet Protection
· Automatic monitoring of media
· Intelligent Firewall
· Data protection by encryption
· Data shredding
· 5 USB Antivirus Licences
· Crypto Storage
· Data Shredding
· Dual Engine (AVG and BitDefender)
The features listed are pretty self-explanatory so I’ll only cover a few that deserve mentioning. A unique feature of the TrustPort Total Protection package is the ability to use traditional scanning and heuristic analysis in order to disable any malware which might enter the computer from the internet or add on media. Two top quality motors ensure the detection of harmful code almost to the magic figure of 100%.
The firewall serves to distinguish between legitimate and illegitimate connections between the computer and the Internet. The program automatically allows Internet communication for commonly used applications. In the case of unknown or suspicious programs the user is always asked whether connection should be permitted or disabled.
Another notable feature is the Scheduler. While this is a standard feature in almost all antivirus packages on the market today, the TrustPort Scheduler is very customisable, allowing you to create individual tasks and then schedule them as you see fit. All-in-all a very well-rounded feature set.
Price to Value
TrustPort Total Protection is available in 1-user retail pack an 3-user retail pack. Comparatively speaking, TrustPort Total Protection is very affordable at AED199.00 per user for a year’s licence for one PC and a three-user pack for a year’s licence going for AED299.00. While it is not the most comprehensive antivirus package on the market, it does its job and it does it quite well. While surfing some of the seedier Websites on my Lenovo ThinkPad X60 tablet notebook at home, that usually house all types of malware, TrustPort Total Protection intercepted and quarantined a number of tracking cookies and potentially malicious cache files.
Given the customisable nature of TrustPort Total Protection and the multi-engine support, this software is a good fit for the budget user looking for an affordable, barebones antivirus yet comprehensive package. More experienced users should be able to figure out configuration settings after surfing through the tabs and implementing the "click and pray" method that I so lovingly embrace.
