TRA instructs operators to publish coverage map

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has published on its website information on Service Coverage Interactive Maps of the telecom operators ‘Etisalat’ and ‘du’, following the instructions requiring the operators to publish interactive maps of telecom service coverage in the UAE on their websites.

This step aims at providing the public with opportunity to choose their suitable operator according to their place of residence or work, by knowing the telecom services available throughout the country according to the geographical location, such as the mobile phone coverage of 2G, 3G and 4G as well as fixed line services, double and triple packages (voice + internet + TV). Moreover, the TRA’s website will allow customers to provide feedback and improvement remarks regarding these maps, which will also be posted on TRA’s website and communicated to the operators, to make improvements as per the costumers’ requirements.

In this context, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: “We emphasize on the importance of cooperation and coordination between all parties involved in the telecom sector in the UAE, including the operators of the public telecommunication services in the country, in order to reach the intended goal of achieving customers happiness and welfare, as well as providing world-class services that are worthy to the UAE’s position and reputation, in addition to enhancing its presence on global competitiveness indicators.”

H.E. Al Mansoori added: “These interactive maps have another dimension, as it involves the public in the decision-making process by looking into the subject from the user’s point of view. We are confident that this initiative makes an important addition to the series of initiatives we have undertaken at the same level, including ‘ICT Rating’ initiative for assessing the quality of ICT services in hotels and resorts, and ‘Erteqa’ initiative for the evaluation of service centers of Etisalat and du.”

Mohammed Al Ramsi, Director of Regulatory Affairs Department, said: “The Service Coverage Interactive Maps have been launched based on initial studies on consumer requirements. We will continue to make improvements, in collaboration with the operators, through the customers’ feedback that will be provided through TRA’s website.”

IT should be noted that the Service Coverage Interactive Maps of the telecom operators in the UAE include information about the locations of service centers, points of sale, and working hours.
