Sun appoints Marc Heger as GM for MENA

Sun Microsystems this week  named regional veteran, Marc Heger, as  General Manager for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region, with immediate effect, while former Managing Director, Chris Cornelius, moves to Sun’s Emerging Markets Region to identify new business development opportunities.

Heger, who previously managed Sun’s sales team in the UAE and Gulf region, among other roles, brings more than 8 years of company and regional experience to his new position.  As GM for the MENA region, he will be responsible for overseeing Sun’s operations in the Middle East, focusing on driving customer satisfaction and ensuring profitable growth for the company and its partners.  Immediate goals for Heger will include building regional awareness of the business benefits of cloud computing, deploying an increased number of ‘green’ datacentres in the Middle East markets, and continuing Sun’s focus on open source software initiatives in the region.

“Sun’s customer and partner community in the MENA markets are set to benefit from the regional knowledge and expertise that Marc Heger brings to his new role as General Manager.  He has a first-hand understanding of the business and IT challenges facing companies across this geography,” said Johann Muller, Systems LOB Director for Emerging Markets. “The insight and skills that Chris Cornelius brought to his previous leadership role within Sun MENA will also be put to good use for our client base in Emerging Markets.”
Most recently, Heger was the volume business lead for Sun in the Southern and Eastern EMEA region, contributing to the company’s growth in the systems mid-tier sector.  Between 2004 and 2008, he was the Gulf General Manager and District Sales Manager, responsible for driving Sun’s revenue across the GCC and Pakistan.  Heger joined Sun in 2000, and fulfilled a number of key sales roles in both large account and channel sales positions in the Middle East between 2000 and 2004.
