Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong is commemorating the one-year anniversary of Steve Jobs’ death at the age of 56 last Oct. 5 by unveiling a lifelike waxwork figure of the Apple co-founder.
The actual-size sculpture took three months to create and cost nearly $200,000 to build. It features Jobs in his signature black turtleneck, Levi’s 501 jeans, New Balance sneakers and rimless glasses.
Jobs, who died last Oct. 5, will no doubt be the subject of many tributes this week, as he was in the immediate aftermath of his death.
Museum general manager Mak Yuen-han said (through a rough Google translation): “Jobs invention rewrote the contemporary scientific and technological outlook. He inspired and affected the lives of millions of people. We are very pleased to pay tribute to a great man who changed the world.”
At the Hong Kong museum, Jobs shares attention with the likes of entertainers Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga. The Jobs figure will travel to Thailand and China as well, though there are no plans as of yet for it to head to the United States, where Madame Tussauds museums are located in Hollywood, Las Vegas, New York City and Washington, D.C.
