Twitter users hit with site errors … again

For the second time in less than a week, Twitter reported that it's working on fixing problems on the microblogging site.

Around 3 p.m. EDT today Twitter users began reporting that they were receiving error notices when trying to update their stream of tweets or posting their own tweets.

By 3:30 p.m., Twitter had posted a note on its status page, saying, “We're looking into the cause of the 500 errors that are being seen by users on twitter.com. We're also working on the posting problems that many people are running into when trying to create tweets.”

As usual, frustrated Twitterers vented their frustrations with the service by tweeting about the downtime. “Why does twitter hate me?” one Twitterer asked. “Is anyone else getting a lot of '#twitter #FAIL' WALES?” said one tweet, while another said that “I'm getting pretty disheartened with Twitter altogether lately.”

Just last week, many users experienced a status update freeze for a few hours. Twitter confirmed the problem early Thursday afternoon, noting that users could post tweets to be published on their own stream but updates from Twitterers that they follow weren't showing up.

Twitter engineers reported that last week's problem was affecting “many” users.
