Google has recently improved their iPhone migration options with a service built directly into Android 17 aimed at simplifying the switch. A release of this tool is timed to coincide with the unveiling of Samsung’s Z Series at its Galaxy Unpacked event.
The search giant expanded the range of data which can be wirelessly transferred from an iPhone without downloading a separate migration app.
In addition to “photos, videos, contacts, messages and calendar”, the latest method covers a user’s “Google Account, passwords, Wi-Fi credentials” and eSIM profile.
By simplifying onboarding and broadening the compatible data types, Google aims to lower the barriers to switching smartphone ecosystems to attract more iPhone users to Android.
Google commenced deployment of the feature on select Pixel devices and it is also available on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 and Z Fold8 ranges unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked.
The company plans to expand the migration method to more Android devices in future.
