SIM-based security is a major focus for U.S. operators

Digital identity company Glide.id is teaming up with AT&T, T-Mobile U.S. and Verizon to deploy its carrier-native security platform which eradicates one-time SMS passwords.

Launching in public beta across iOS and Android, MagicalAuth uses open network APIs and hardware-rooted cryptographic authentication embedded in SIMs and eSIMs to defend against AI-based identity fraud.

Glide.id noted operators face intense pressure to protect consumers from sophisticated threats. It explained SMS verification has long been plagued by SIM-swapping and social engineering, and is increasingly helpless against deepfakes, automated vector attacks and voice cloning.

It cited U.S. Federal Trade Commission statistics showing consumer fraud losses reached $15.9 billion in 2025, with account takeovers accounting for almost 33% of enterprise losses, leading operators to shift security from SMS to their networks.

MagicalAuth issues a network-level mathematical challenge which can only be solved by the unique cryptographic key installed in each SIM.

This mirrors the secure architecture of chip-and-PIN payment cards, verifying user identity without passwords, authentication apps or manual code entries.

Operator executives positioned the launch as an essential evolution in digital trust.

AT&T Business SVP of Product Shawn Hakl said employing APIs to embed security directly into the network is crucial to protecting enterprise data and financial transactions.

T-Mobile SVP Dirk Mosa said cross-carrier collaboration is vital for tackling evolving threats, while Verizon Business CPO Scott Lawrence positioned SIM-based protection as a way to phase out outdated authentication methods.

Glide.id is expanding availability of following initial rollouts in Germany, the UK and Spain. It stated deployments in Canada are underway.
