CNN, an American news broadcaster, recently signed-up to use T-Mobile US’s 5G-Advanced network slicing service called SuperMobile. This move will grant journalists to ability to live-stream using smartphones from almost anywhere in the U.S.
The operator explained the use of slicing would allow stable live streams during periods of network congestion, with its service able to adjust resource allocation for data-intensive applications. It also noted the product had “built-in security designed for mobile” to keep communications secure.
Among the other benefits of its service, the operator pointed to access to its T-Satellite offering, which provides connectivity in remote areas for applications such as maps and weather updates.
CNN SVP ad sales and client partnerships Guy Griggs said the pact would power “live coverage of breaking news and major cultural moments”.
T-Mobile for Business CMO Mo Katibeh stated the product was a “breakthrough that makes real-time, mobile-first journalism possible. It’s not just a game-changer for journalism, it’s a blueprint for how business gets done when teams need to stay connected, secure, and productive”.
The operator launched its SuperMobile service in August, noting at the time it had been adopted by companies including Delta Air Lines and Axis Energy Services. It uses the company’s nationwide 5G-A network.
