ADWEA targets 20% 2030 energy consumption cut

ADWEA has announced that its Tarsheed programme is targeting a 20 percent reduction in water and electricity consumption by 2030

Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has announced that its Tarsheed programme is targeting a 20 percent reduction in water and electricity consumption by 2030.

ADWEA’s chairman of the board of directors, Abdullah Ali Musleh Al Ahbabi delivered the announcement at the 29th annual International Seminar of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Abu Dhabi Chapter.

Speaking about the role of governance in delivering the Authority’s strategic objectives and improving financial performance, Al Ahbabi said that ADWEA is aiming to be among the world’s leading providers of water and electricity by 2020.

He also pointed to ADWEA’s efforts to provide a sustained supply of water and electricity services to its consumers, and satisfy growing demand due to the increase in population and expansion of new residential developments.

He lauded the government’s policy to harness nuclear energy, solar power, and natural gas to generate electricity and secure services in the future.

Launched at the beginning of 2016, Tarsheed aims to encourage its customers to use water and electricity more efficiently in line with the directives of the country’s leadership, with regard to environmental protection for the benefit of future generations.

The 29th Annual International Seminar was held on 9th and 10th November in Abu Dhabi under the theme ‘Success through synergy’.

ADWEA has previously discussed plans to launch a comprehensive, five-year IT roadmap to achieve its overarching of meeting the emirate’s 2030 Vision aims.

Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 is a comprehensive roadmap for the emirate’s economic progress. By 2030, Abu Dhabi intends to build a sustainable and diversified, “high value-added” economy that is not only well integrated into the global economy, but also provides more accessible opportunities for all its citizens and residents.
