Dubai installs first smart pedestrian traffic signal

Dubai’s first smart pedestrian traffic signal has been installed on Al Saadah Street by the Roads and Transport Authority, according to a recent Twitter post by the Dubai Media Office.

According to a report by Gulf News, the traffic signal uses a sensor-based smart system through an optical ground system which sends the data and images to a main computer. Once received, the data is then processed and the lights change accordingly.

The new traffic signal can also detect movements of pedestrians on the sidewalk before crossing the street or during crossing and automatically adjusts the timing of the signal’s light
