The first of many

It is never easy doing something for the first time, making a first-time success that much sweeter. Imagine, then, the joy that R&M must have felt when it successfully completed work on its first CAT6A UTP ISO cabling solution in the Middle East last week.

The firm’s task was to implement this integrated solution at the Millennium Hotel Amman, in Jordan. Apparently, the hotel needed “five-star cabling” to match its five-star status.

The end-to-end cabling solution, then, is comprised of newly designed, high-performance and secure CAT6A UTP ISO connectivity technology, along with the firm’s OM3 Fibre Optic vertical solution.

The project began when the IT consultant for the hotel, Munir AbuZeid, Executive Director, Meda Consulting Engineers, designed a comprehensive IT infrastructure solution. The idea demanded high-quality, performance-standard products to match the hotel’s contemporary design. And the CAT6A UTP ISO was chosen as the best match.

“Based on my long experience in the industry working with various cabling solutions, I found that the performance of the R&M CAT6A UTP (10G) with 650MHz cabling infrastructure solution was excellent with high bandwidth and capacity capabilities,” said AbuZeid. “We fully trust that the installed R&M products will not only meet, but also exceed the expectations of Millennium Hotel.”

The project also depended on the quality of the installation services on offer, as is the case with any cabling project. The installation was carried out by R&M’s partner in Jordan, Applied Technical Systems (ATS), which benefitted from direct involvement and supervision from the R&M Levant office in Amman.

The project took two months to be completed by eight R&M-certified installers from ATS.

Given that this was the first CAT6A ISO project in the region, certified QPP training courses were conducted on-site by the R&M Levant technical team. This gave the ATS installers all of the technical skills needed to complete the installation.

“The team spirit and close collaboration with our partner, ATS, was instrumental in delivery of the project to the satisfaction of the customer. We look forward to many such successful projects in the region in the future,” said Mohammad Sweidan, Area Manager for Levant and Kuwait, R&M.

The solution was tested through Fluke DTX-1800, obtaining an impressive performance of 650MHz (on Fluke test) for the complete channel and for all installed ports.

The Millennium Hotel Amman is the newest five-star business-lifestyle hotel in the Jordanian capital. The hotel, located in the business and commercial district of Shmeisani, is within easy walking distance of Amman’s shopping centres, banks, high-end restaurants and entertainment facilities. The 20-floor property has 178 rooms.

“A world-class hotel like Millennium Hotel Amman, which targets the most elite customers in the region, required a five-star cabling infrastructure solution that facilitates intelligence services for all customer facilities and ensured the highest level of network stability and availability,” said Ibrahim Zananiri, IT Manager, Millennium Hotel Amman.

“At the same time, it had to have a contemporary design that matched the modern design of the hotel. The R&M solution ticked all the boxes, and, with local representation and support from its technically proficient partner, ATS, the company was able to not only meet, but also exceed our expectations.”

R&M claimed that its products’ flexibility could “easily” meet the Italian standard faceplates that were penned by the hotel designer. And the global rack, with 144 FO ports in 3U, saved space, time and money with the integration of the Fibre module of R&M’s cassette, which could easily be installed in the floor panel and in the main global patch panel.

It is easy to detect the Millennium Hotel Amman’s satisfaction with the project, meaning that R&M – and its Jordanian partner – can take comfort in the fact that it succeeded first-time around. No doubt the firm will be hoping that this project will become the first of many.
