EMC launches data protection suite to create ‘survival kit’ for customers

EMC today announced the EMC Data Protection Suite, which creates a “survival kit” for users of EMC’s backup and archive solutions.

The security suite delivers a portfolio of data protection services to support virtual and physical environments, and tight integration with EMC’s purpose-built backup appliances.

The availability of flexible licensing gives users access to all capabilities, relieving them of the need to size and price individual solution components, EMC said.

As organisations continue to embrace IT-as-a-service models, EMC said it is also essential to embrace a “data protection-as-a-service” model.

The EMC Protection Storage Architecture supports this evolution, it said. It leverages consolidated protection storage as a repository for data; provides integration across the IT environment; and is tied together with consolidated data management as a way to deliver a catalog of data protection services

“As the world’s largest backup provider, we have to innovate to retain our clients’ patronage,” said Guy Churchward, President, Backup Recovery Systems Division, EMC.

“This comes in the form of not just technology but also the consumption model.  The EMC Data Protection Suite is an excellent way for customers to harness the benefits of our broad portfolio with a simple, flexible approach without compromise.”

The announcement was made during EMC World 2013 in Las Vegas, where CNME Editor Ben Rossi is reporting from this week. You can follow live updates on Twitter at @ComputerNewsME and #EMCWORLD.
