Abu Dhabi school technology competition winners announced

Abu Dhabi Education Council, Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre and Microsoft Gulf have announced winners of “Imagine Us” technology competition.

This was held for Abu Dhabi secondary schools to encourage students to express themselves through technology and find solutions for problems that face their society. The competition was held for the second year in a row in partnership with technology partners, Fujitsu and AMD.

Three top teams under each category have had their projects recognised by the judging panel.

In the digital video category there were three winning teams.

First place: World Changers from Al Ma’ali School (Al Ain)

Second place: Malattia Addio Team from the Aishah Bint Abi Baker School (Abu Dhabi)

Third place: Eco Friendly Team from Aishah Bint Abi Baker School (Abu Dhabi).

In the website design category there were three winning teams.

First place: Netstar Team from Abdul Qader Al Jazaeri School (Abu Dhabi)

Second place: Dalma Team from the Al Farazdaq School (Abu Dhabi)

Third place: 4 Friends Team from the Al Siddique School (Abu Dhabi)

In the graphic design category there were three winning teams.

First place: UAE Team from the Hunain Secondary School (Abu Dhabi)

Second place: Pure Life Team from the Mu’tah School (Al Gharbiah region) Third place: Talented Team from the Hunain Secondary School (Abu Dhabi)

Samer Abu-Ltaif, Regional General Manager of Microsoft Gulf added: “Microsoft’s Imagine Us is all about igniting the imagination of tomorrow’s technology visionaries and leaders. When coupled with the power of technology the potential of young people is unlimited and the ideas they develop for the event could significantly improve the lives of millions of people around the world.”

Imagine Us is a technology competition aimed at developing the skills, imagination and creativity of high school students by using special computer applications in designing, graphics, web, and digital video. The competition encourages young high school students in the UAE to apply their imagination, passion, and creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world.

The competition has seen participation of students and teachers from three educational zones of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. As part of the competition there were 437 participants including teachers, team leaders and students who registered in the three categories of the competition. A total of 63 teams submitted their projects, out of which only 15 were shortlisted for the final round where a panel of judges selected three works from each category for awards. The nine winning teams received prizes from technology partners Fujitsu and AMD.
