Nvidia and Deutsche Telekom collaborate on AI data hub project

Nvidia and Deutsche Telekom recently unveiled plans to collaborate on a €1 billion data centre project in Germany. The end goal of this project is to strengthen the country’s digital sovereignty and help further power Europe’s industrial AI ambitions.

The AI facility will mark one of Europe’s largest, deploying up to 10,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs to create what the partners call an “industrial AI cloud.” Set to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026, the Munich-based facility will boost Germany’s AI computing power by around 50 per cent, according to Deutsche Telekom.

SAP, Europe’s largest software company, will integrate its business technology platform and applications into the new cloud infrastructure, which will be housed in an existing Deutsche Telekom facility. The focus will be on linking AI models to industrial data sources to accelerate the adoption of automation and intelligent manufacturing.

Siemens, Perplexity, Agile Robots and Quantum Systems are among the initial ten partners building out the ecosystem.

Supercharge Germany

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the initiative will “supercharge” Germany’s industrial base. “With the world’s first Industrial AI Cloud and one of Germany’s largest GPU deployments, we’re bringing Nvidia AI and robotics to start a new era of Germany’s industrial transformation”, he said.

Federal digitalisation minister Karsten Wildberger hailed the deal as “crucial to making Germany a leading AI country”.

The Industrial AI Cloud marks one of the first flagship projects under the country’s Made 4 Germany initiative, which brings together more than 100 companies to boost the country’s appeal as a business hub while accelerating digitalisation.

The project also aligns with the European Union’s (EU) broader €200 billion InvestAI plan to triple the bloc’s AI capacity within the next decade.
