SK Telecom (SKT) recently carried out a major restructuring by dividing its operations into the MNO and AI groups. These efforts alongside an executive reshuffle aim to rebuild customer trust and speed up its AI transformation aims.
In a statement, new president CEO Jung Jaihun explained the new structure aims to optimise work method and decision-making, with the goal to “restore customer trust in our MNO business and generate tangible results in our AI business”.
Jung added it plans to strengthen the responsibilities and management roles by reducing the number of executives, without revealing a figure.
Local media said it would cut about 30 per cent of its executives. SKT promoted 11 executives.
Jung’s appointment at end-October followed a data breach which compromised SIM-related information of its entire mobile users base back in April.
In September, the operator said it would consolidate all of its AI units into a single entity. Last December, it announced plans to reorganise into seven business divisions to strengthen competitiveness of its core telecoms and AI businesses.
