Driven by peace of mind, real-time connectivity, and Vision 2030, Saudi families embrace smart cameras for safety, convenience, and control.
Saudi Arabia’s journey toward Vision 2030 is fueling a surge in smart security adoption, with families embracing intelligent home monitoring systems that offer convenience, connectivity, and peace of mind. The shift reflects a broader digital transformation, where technology enhances daily life and personal safety.
Mohammad Meraj Hoda, VP of business development – Emerging Markets, Ring spoke to Tahawultech.com on what’s driving consumer preferences, how smart cameras differ from traditional CCTV systems, and how companies like Ring are delivering innovation while safeguarding user privacy through advanced security features.
What are the key factors driving the high adoption of smart security devices in Saudi Arabia, and how do these align with the goals of KSA Vision 2030?
Saudi Arabia’s high adoption of smart security devices is driven by a strong desire for enhanced peace of mind, improved video quality, and ease of installation. Research shows that 91% of Saudis feel more comfortable with a monitoring camera at home. Additionally, 84% of residents are considering upgrading or purchasing new smart cameras, with key motivators including the desire for greater control over home monitoring, better visual clarity, and effortless, DIY installation. The increasing demand is also aligned with KSA Vision 2030 goals, which emphasise smart living and digital transformation.
Apart from traditional security, how are Saudi families using smart cameras, and what makes them different from your basic CCTV?
Beyond traditional security, Saudi families are increasingly using smart cameras to enrich their daily lives by staying connected to their homes and loved ones, even when away. Smart cameras like those from Ring are being used to keep an eye on children, check on elderly family members, and communicate directly with delivery personnel.
What truly sets smart cameras apart from basic CCTV systems is the intelligence, interactivity, and flexibility they offer. Unlike basic CCTV, which mainly records footage for later review, smart cameras provide real-time notifications, two-way communication, and remote access through mobile apps, allowing users to see, speak to, and respond to visitors or activities at home instantly.
“Features such as Customisable Motion Zones, Extended and Continuous Live View, and Head-to-Toe HD Video allow Saudi families to personalise their home monitoring experience according to their needs.”
Additionally, Ring’s solutions offer easy DIY installation, seamless integration with other smart devices like Alexa, and advanced privacy controls—far beyond the capabilities of traditional CCTV. These innovations align perfectly with the evolving lifestyles and digital-first mindset of Saudi families today.
What technological features do Saudi consumers prioritise, including video quality, ease of installation, and extended viewing?
Saudi consumers prioritise several key technological features when choosing smart security solutions. These include superior video quality for clear and detailed monitoring, easy and seamless installation with an emphasis on DIY setups, and Extended and Continuous Live View, which allows ongoing monitoring of important activities like children playing or pets at home. Additionally, features like Head-to-Toe HD Video and Customisable Motion Zones are important, enabling users to tailor their security coverage to their specific needs.
Ring’s product portfolio is thoughtfully designed to meet these exact expectations. Cameras like the Ring Battery Video Doorbell and the Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera offer high-definition video, real-time motion alerts, and customisable motion zones to enhance user control. Ring also ensures easy setup through a user-friendly app and provides smart integrations with Alexa for a seamless connected experience.
How can families ensure their data is protected when using smart home technology as privacy is a major concern with connected devices?
We always prioritise the safety and security of our customers. Privacy, security, and control are at the forefront when developing our products. In the Ring app, customers can use Control Centre, an easy-to-use dashboard, to view and control their privacy and security settings. We’ve also put features in place across all our devices to ensure privacy, security, and user control remain front and centre – including customisable Privacy Zones to block out “off-limit” areas, Motion Zones to control the areas customers want their Ring device to detect motion, and Audio Toggle to turn audio on and off.
Customers can also opt in to video End-to-End Encryption, which means they can add an extra layer of security that only allows their videos to be viewed on their chosen mobile device. We also use enhanced account security measures, such as mandatory two-factor authentication and login notifications, which inform users if a new device or browser logs into their account.
