Juniper addresses SDN, BYOD needs

Juniper Networks has launched a new range of more widely programmable switches and management tools that aim to address provider and enterprise needs for software-defined networking (SDN) and bring your own device (BYOD) strategies.

The new EX9200 Core Switch, Virtual JunosV WLAN Controller and Junos Space Network Director products are aimed at data centres and enterprise campus customers who need greater network agility, said Juniper.

To prepare enterprise campuses and data centres for new technologies and business requirements, the EX9200 is said to provide the programmability required for emerging applications and environments. The EX9200 prepares enterprises for emerging software-defined networking (SDN) protocols, allowing for network automation and interoperability without the need for additional hardware.

This eliminates cost, complexity and time delays from line card upgrades or new infrastructure deployments, empowering enterprises to be more nimble and efficient, said Jumiper.

Juniper said the EX9200 Virtual Chassis technology simplifies network architecture, reducing network devices and layers by up to 50 percent. The EX9200 will initially ship with 1/10/40GbE interfaces.

The Virtual JunosV WLAN Controller supports the growing trend of BYOD and seamless integration between wired and wireless networks. The virtual on-demand controller is designed to run on any combination of physical appliances via a virtual machine.

It offers controller clustering; in-service software upgrades; self-organising adds, moves and changes; and local switching across the portfolio. At the same time none of these implementations are tied to a specific location within the enterprise. This simplifies network deployments and increases flexibility, Juniper said, as enterprises don’t need to have multiple “islands of networks” within their infrastructure.
