AWS to provide US government agencies with discounts

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has agreed to provide US Federal government agencies with up to $1 billion in discounts for cloud services, modernisation support and training. This agreement is valid until the end of 2028.

The agreement with the US General Services Administration (GSA) is intended to accelerate IT transformation across federal agencies and spur AI innovation.

AWS’ deal with the government’s centralised procurement division is pitched as aiding the agencies to migrate from legacy infrastructure to cloud environments.

“The agreement between GSA and AWS aims to reduce the cost of federal IT expenditures, save taxpayer dollars, drive innovation and agility in new government services, and secure America’s continued leadership in AI,” the GSA stated.

AWS is offering credits for infrastructure, applications and training to improve agency capabilities.

“Through this unique partnership, the federal government is poised to deliver on President Trump’s AI Action Plan and solidify its position as the global AI leader,” federal acquisition service commissioner Josh Gruenbaum said.

Financial terms of the contract were not available.

The GSA also struck AI-related arrangements with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google earlier this week.
