SoftBank utilises AI to analyse network traffic

SoftBank Corp recently showcased a technology that optimises core network routes by using AI to analyse traffic characteristics in real time and autonomously determine required latency conditions.

In their statement, SoftBank noted by automatically switching to the shortest network route it achieved optimal communication quality according to the application used.

The technology allows for the use of a conventional centralised mobile core for communications where efficiency is important and for applications requiring low latency, such as AR, VR and autonomous driving.

The operator explained its Autonomous Thinking Distributed Core Routing dynamically switches between a conventional centrally managed core network and SRv6 user plane function. AI agents used industry standard quality-on-demand APIs defined by the CAMARA Project.

A cloud gaming field trial running on its 4G network verified average latency using the technology dropped to 27.4ms compared with 41.9ms on a conventional mobile core.

SoftBank added that the traffic control accuracy of the AI agent reached 99.7%, confirming the effectiveness of highly precise and stable autonomous control.
