Apple looks to provide custom wallet passes

Apple is reportedly planning to put pass creation directly in the hands of iPhone users with a new feature coming to the Wallet app in iOS version 27.

Bloomberg reported the new Create a Pass feature lets users scan any QR code and wrap a fully customised digital pass around it, complete with personalised styles, images, colours and text fields.

Users can build a pass from scratch or use the iPhone’s camera to scan a QR code and convert it into a digital ticket.

The feature will be accessible via the “plus” button inside the Wallet app and through the page where users currently add new credit cards.

The news agency explained the move addresses a long-standing gap in the Wallet ecosystem. Bloomberg explained the Apple Wallet is mainly used for third‑party passes plus Apple Pay cards, digital keys and gift cards, but many services still do not provide passes which will work with it.

Three templates are in testing: a standard pass in the colour orange, a blue membership option aimed at venues like gyms, and a purple event pass tailored for concerts, games and cinemas.

The pass builder forms part of a broader iOS 27 overhaul slated for unveiling at Apple’s WWDC developer conference on 8 June, 2026, alongside a revamped Siri and expanded AI-powered photo and camera tools.
