
According to figures issued by CCS Insight, eSIMs are becoming an important selling point in the consumer market. Consumers are generally interested in them as an alternative to physical modules and the benefits they offer.
The company noted users in the UK, US, Spain and Germany are becoming more familiar with what eSIMs are.
CCS Insight also told Mobile World Live (MWL) there is high interest in unlimited data packages in several of the markets, along with indicating most customers still opt for tariffs tied with devices.
Awareness of eSIMs among UK consumers approached 75 per cent at end-2025, up from 27 per cent in 2022.
The company noted users in the nation are increasingly interested in employing an eSIM when travelling, listing convenience and cost as factors.
Primary choice
Kester Mann, Director of Consumer and Connectivity at CCS Insight, said indications consumers are keen to use eSIMs is ‘encouraging’. “Combined with rising compatibility in smartphones and support from operators, it won’t be long before eSIM becomes the de facto way to sign up to a mobile service”.
CCS Insight told MWL eSIM awareness in the US stood at 44 per cent, Spain 35 per cent and Germany 48 per cent. The company’s figures indicate appetite for SIM-only deals is growing, though is not yet at levels to surpass bundled packages.
It stated almost 45 per cent of users in the UK now pick SIM-only options, with longer device replacement cycles a factor along with promotional offers. The figure in Spain stood at 25 per cent and 30 per cent in Germany.
CCS Insight found more than 40 per cent of UK users employ their phone as a mobile hotspot, a fresh area of research it noted plays into growing appetite for unlimited data tariffs.
The company told MWL 86 per cent of US and Indian users are considering an unlimited tariff at their next renewal or upgrade, 72 per cent in Spain and 49 per cent in Germany.
