Jordan, Saudi seal partnership to connect power grids

Jordan and Saudi Arabia have signed a partnership to connect both countries’ electric grids, the Jordan News Agency – Petra – reported.

The connection will help reduce the load of oscillations and will boost the two countries’ reliance on renewable energy.

The agreement came from the framework of the 2nd International Conference for IT Applications in the Development of Renewable Energy Systems and Processes for Intelligent Cities, which was organised by University of Petra’s ICT collage in cooperation with the National Research University Higher School of Economics of Moscow.

Abdel Fattah Daradkeh, director general of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), stressed that the cooperation between the ICT and the renewable energy sectors could help in solving many problems that are facing renewable energy fields.

Renewable energy has become a hot topic in the region of late. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,  recently announced the launch of a $3.87 billion solar power project, which is expected to generate 700MW of clean energy to support Dubai’s electricity grid.
