The UAE’s Ministry of Interior has launched a service that will see the installation of fire alarm systems that will be connected to the country’s Civil Defence department.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has directed the UAE Civil Defence to immediately install fire alarm systems in every Emirati citizen’s home, while the systems will be installed for free at the homes of those who can’t afford it.

The systems will link all Emirati homes to the civil defence, Sheikh Mohammed tweeted.

The initiative follows a fire in Fujairah which claimed the lives of seven children following the short circuit of an AC system.

The Ministry of Interior has upgraded its smart services list to allow online applications to install the fire alarm systems in residences and link them with the Civil Defence’s operations rooms.

Applications for the service can now be made through the ministry’s website, www.moi.gov.ae. Once an application is submitted, the applicant will be contacted by the suppliers of the system for installation.

The smart warning systems can be installed within 24 hours, and include the installation of a smart data plaque placed at the home entrance, featuring buttons that are connected directly to the civil defence operations room.

Under the directives of Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, the ministry started linking homes and villas with its operations rooms, following the technical solution provided by the higher committee tasked with the project.

The system is a self-operated and easily installed smoke detection sensor, with a voice alarm for the quick evacuation of residents, the Ministry said.

The Ministry has also launched its Hasantak system for detecting fires and smoke. Already in place at government buildings, all UAE buildings will be connected to the system by 2023, MoI’s Major General Jassem Al Marzouqi, Commander-in-Chief of Civil Defence said.
