“Mobile solutions will transform security”: HID Global

HID Global’s regional sales director has said that the world’s love for mobile devices means that the secure identity solutions must now account for that transformation.

Wisam Yaghmour, speaking to 60 Mins, said that the firm had a selection of new solutions that allow users to manage their identities through mobile devices.

“GITEX is undoubtedly one of the most important shows for HID,” he said. “It’s a great platform to launch solutions for cloud and mobility and is a great way to show customers new technology that solves their problems.

“We’ve got a new tool that will help existing customers to upgrade from old systems to a new mobile platform. Technicians and engineers can now use iOS 12 and our portal to grant pin codes where they can upgrade the firmware of readers, as well as conducting troubleshooting.

“It will make a big difference for customers to convert from basic security controls to mobile solutions and means they can use their mobile devices instead of access badges. The demand that we’re seeing is much more centred around mobility.

“High end customers want high security, privacy and protection. Many layers are coming on to the market, but our aim is to improve the customer experience and manage security credentials via the cloud.”

In June, HID Global’s parent company ASSA ABLOY agreed a partnership with Apple to enable contactless student IDs through Apple Wallet, and Yaghmour said the solution would open up a whole host of opportunities for the firm.

“They’ve introduced a new agreement with Apple to support Apple Wallet, which allows mobile access IDs on Apple,” he said. “There’ll be a big focus for this on the education sector. This will allow credit cards, boarding passes and ID cards to be part of a global solution to support Apple Watch and iPads.”
