Ericsson, Vodafone Portugal and Cimpor, an industrial materials producer, recently praised the benefits of installed private 5G networks at several of the latter’s sites. These 5G deployments are set to be replicated across various other business units.
Vodafone Portugal led the installation, configuration, integration and validation of all radio equipment, core parameters and use-case deployments, Ericsson noted, highlighting its equipment was used.
The networks are active in Cimpor’s three main cement production plants in Portugal, supporting IoT sensors, autonomous vehicles and other connected systems. Benefits cited by the Swedish vendor include more precise asset monitoring, improved operational efficiency and enhanced safety in challenging conditions.
Cimpor global CTO Berkan Fidan stated the implementation of the networks “marks a decisive step in strengthening the resilience, efficiency and safety of our industrial operations. This technology lays the foundation for a new generation of digital applications and enables us to operate with greater precision and responsiveness”.
Vodafone Portugal executive board member for its Business unit Henrique Fonseca added the deployment “reinforces the role these networks play in enhancing economic competitiveness, particularly in industrial activities”.
“With immediate communications and large-scale sensing, data can be interpreted quickly and a wide range of remote activities becomes possible”.
