Specialist publication Juve Patent noted video codecs are now as important as broader mobile communications technologies, evidenced by a rash of court battles involving big names including Broadcom, Netflix and Amazon.
Nokia VP and head of its patent portfolio Sami Saru previously told Mobile World Live video codecs have been an important part of its line-up for some time.
The company stated it created more than 5,000 relevant inventions over the past 25 years.
Nokia chief licensing officer for wireless technology Susanna Martikainen said the agreement with Hisense is recognition of the vendor’s “leadership in video and multimedia research and standardisation”.
