Telefonica further outlined its plans to create a new London-based office. It went on to state that the move reflects the importance of its UK operations and a growing commitment to the European market.
The operator stated the office would be overseen by group COO Emilio Gayo and headed by Mario Martin, an executive with more 30 years’ experience within the Telefonica group. Martin worked as CEO of infrastructure subsidiary Telxius for the past eight years.
The London office is to support priorities in the company’s Transform and Grow strategic plan, which it laid out late in 2025.
Telefonica explained it aims to promote a more integrated operational management of VMO2 assets and boost “coordination” between business units backing its UK operations.
Gayo said the UK is a strategic market for the group “and we aim to have a structure there that allows us to stay closer to business, support value creation and ensure management decisions are aligned with our industrial and financial priorities”.
