According to a recent Bloomberg report, Meta Platforms has cut several hundred jobs as part of a restructuring effort which affects teams across sales, recruiting and its Reality Labs hardware division as it continues to shift resources towards AI.
The news agency stated fewer than 1,000 employees worldwide are expected to be impacted, with some offered alternative roles or relocation options. Bloomberg noted the social media giant had about 79,000 employees worldwide at the start of the year.
The job cuts are impacting employees in the US and other international markets.
As part of the process, some Reality Labs staff were asked to work remotely ahead of the cuts which started on the 25th of March 2026.
A representative for Meta told Mobile World Live teams across the company “regularly restructure or implement changes to ensure they’re in the best position to achieve their goals. Where possible, we are finding other opportunities for employees whose positions may be impacted”.
Reuters reported in January 2026 Meta planned to layoff around 10 per cent of the employees in its Reality Labs division which has roughly 15,000 employees.
The reduced headcount comes as Meta races to expand AI investments as it builds out large-scale data centres and explores in-house chip development.
