Verizon launches pioneering 6G forum

Verizon recently launched its 6G Innovation Forum by collaborating with various technology companies including Ericsson, Samsung and Nokia. The members of this new forum aim to help pioneer the future of the next-gen wireless technology.

Members of the Verizon 6G Innovation Forum include the trio of network vendors along with device and chipset companies Meta Platforms and Qualcomm Technologies.

The initiative focuses on developing foundational 6G technologies, exploring new use cases and ensuring global alignment in standards and interoperability.

The group will test new spectrum bands and harmonise global 6G standards with bodies like 3GPP to ensure its work follows mainstream development and promotes interoperability across the industry.

Forum partners will be able to test and refine 6G technologies in real-world environments through dedicated Verizon 6G Labs starting in Los Angeles.

A representative for Verizon told Mobile World Live the 6G lab will be in located in the same footprint as the 5G lab it has in Los Angeles with a plan to transition to the former in the first half of 2026

The mobile operator stated the forum will accelerate its Verizon’s AI Connect strategy and intelligent edge capabilities to help businesses to manage real-time AI workloads at scale.

“5G Advanced lays the foundation for the 6G future, whether that’s new wearables, AI experiences, or entirely new use cases we haven’t even thought of yet, and that’s what excites me the most”, stated Joe Russo, EVP and President, Global Networks and Technology at Verizon.
