Anthropic AI launches its first office in India

AI developer Anthropic recently opened its first office in India and went on to tout new partnerships and strong adoption of its Claude assistant in the country.

Its new site in Bengaluru is its second in Asia after Tokyo, Japan, which opened in October 2025.

The company stated India was the second largest market for its Claude AI assistant, and a country with a developer community doing some of the most technically intense AI work seen anywhere in the world.

Almost half of the Claude use in the country is for “computer and mathematical” tasks such as application building, system modernisation and shipping production software, it added.

The company announced its expansion in the country during October 2025 and subsequently appointed former Microsoft executive Irina Ghose to lead its work there as managing director for India.

Anthropic reported its run-rate revenue in India had doubled since it announced the expansion.

Among its local customers is airline Air India, which is using Anthropic’s coding product as part of an agentic AI push. It also revealed partnerships with digital finance player Razorpay and customer insight platform provider Enterpret.

The company also pointed to a continued push to improve models for widely spoken local languages, and deals with public sector organisations.

In a statement, Ghose highlighted the country “represents one of the world’s most promising opportunities to bring the benefits of responsible AI to vastly more people and enterprises”.

“Already, it’s home to extraordinary technical talent, digital infrastructure at scale, and a proven track record of using technology to improve people’s lives. That’s exactly the foundation you need to make sure this technology reaches the people who can benefit from it most”.
