“We find that all our customers are using several separate element managers. Unisphere will unify or aggregate these separate element managers in midrange products into a single one. In July this year, we will have SAN and NAS integration. In subsequent quarters you will see further integration,” promised Rich Napolitano, president of the unified storage division at EMC.
Unisphere will include task-based navigation and controls for an intuitive, context-based approach to configuring storage, creating replicas, monitoring the environment and managing host connections. It will also come with customisable dashboard views and reporting capabilities. Napolitano said that in the future there is a possible of integration on an online platform to make simpler access to support and buy time for customers by simplifying the process of interaction.
EMC also announced that come July there will be storage efficiency technologies for EMC CLARiiON and Celerra storage systems (including FAST Cache capabilities), support for VMware’s vStorage APIs for Array Integration and new vCenter integration.
“With these announcements, EMC is changing how customers will be able to more easily, more efficiently and more simply manage their midrange storage environments. With the new management approach and advanced efficiency capabilities, such as FAST and FAST Cache, customers can easily consolidate and optimise multiple changing workloads on a single array. The new efficiencies are fundamental to our strategy of enabling customers to store, manage, protect and secure applications and information in a policy-based and automated way to accelerate the journey to the private cloud,” said Napolitano.
