Asiacell has selected Huawei to initiate network modernisation across Iraq as a continuation of their 17-year partnership.

Through the collaboration, Huawei will provide Asiacell with advanced solutions and services that will increase network performance in preparation for the next generation of communications performance and to deliver a superior experience to customers.

Amer Sunna, CEO, Asiacell, said, “For past 17 years, Asiacell has worked with Huawei to deliver GSM and 3G communications to the Iraqi community. Following the successful enhancement of our south network and the excellent service our customers enjoy as a result, we look forward to continuing our partnership to roll out a modernisation initiative that will enable us to deliver the best network experience.”

In deploying Huawei’s latest network solutions, Asiacell seeks to enhance its digital experience and provide innovative services to its end-users. This will include delivering services that target specific sectors within the economy, enabling the use of advanced technologies, high-speed services, and cutting-edge applications.

Asiacell also aims to futureproof its network by installing Huawei’s complete IP/MPLS network solutions, which can fulfill the connectivity requirements of current and future mobile network services.

An Jian, President of Huawei Middle East Carrier Network Business Group, said, “Connectivity is the backbone of any economy in today’s world. We are privileged to continue our relationship with Asiacell to deploy the latest technologies on our partner’s network, which will enable the roll-out of a new era of communications capabilities across the country. Additionally, we will work together to build an IP network in Iraq, representing a significant development for the communications segment.”

The IP network will be based on SDN and Segment Routing technology, enabling Asiacell to rapidly upscale its network to meet capacity requirements. This will contribute significantly towards future network evolution, from 3G to 4G and 5G.

Huawei has been a partner of choice for telecom carriers globally in 5G network development, in part because of its broad range of end-to-end 5G solutions covering network sites, architecture, protocols, network operations and maintenance.
