Review: Realme X2 Pro

4 out of 5

There’s a newcomer in the UAE smartphone market – Realme, a Shenzhen-based mobile phone manufacturer. The company has officially launched its smartphones here in the region with its flagship device, the Realme X2 Pro, leading the charge.Realme X2 Pro

The Realme X2 Pro is a device that is dressed to impress, with a noteworthy assortment of specifications.

The smartphone comes in two colours – Neptune Blue and Lunar White. We have received the latter version and I must say I’m obsessed with this colour. It has a pearlescent effect, which changes colour just slightly in the light giving the device a premium and chic vibe. It comes with dual 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 both back and front. It has a glossy texture, which makes keeping the device smudge-free a bit of a challenge. But thankfully its ships with a phone case in the box. The metallic sides have a matte finish, which adds a bit more elegance to the design. It also houses the power button, volume rockers and the dual SIM-card tray. The bottom edge has the USB-C port, primary speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack for those who still prefer wired earphones.

Moving on to the display, the Realme X2 Pro sports a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 2400×1080 resolution. It has the popular water-drop notch on top of the display, which houses the selfie camera. It has a 90Hz refresh rate, which produces smooth and vivid colours. Brightness levels are high for indoors while outdoors under direct sunlight, it still offers enough brightness to make the screen contents legible. The display delivers rich images whether you’re browsing through Instagram or watching movies on Netflix.

The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the screen. It’s easy to set up, accurate and quickly unlocks the phone.

Under the hood, the Realme X2 Pro doesn’t disappoint either. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 855+ processor. The review unit we got has a 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. With all the power that it’s packing, I didn’t face any lags or frame freezing while using the smartphone. It runs on Android 9.0 Pie and ColorOS 6.1, which deliver a great user experience.

As for the device’s photographic capabilities, Realme X2 Pro boasts a quad-camera setup with 20x hybrid zoom. It has a 64MP primary shooter, which is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 13MP telephoto lens and a 2MP portrait lens. The rear cameras have a number of features including Nightscape 2.0 mode, slow-motion, time-lapse, panorama, real-time filters, and a Pro mode.

The Realme X2 Pro’s rear shooters thrive in daylight conditions. Most of the photos were captured in well-lit environments turned out clear, detailed and crisp. However, at night the noise and the loss of details are noticeable.

On the front, there is a 16MP f/2.0 sensor with AI support and does a good job with selfies.

The device packs big power, with 4000mAh battery, which lasts an entire day of usage, which includes a lot of gaming, browsing and streaming content. The bigger deal, however, is its fast-charging capability. Realme X2 Pro ships with a 50W SuperVooc flash charger, which delivers a full charge to the device in less than an hour.

Overall, the Realme X2 Pro offers top specs at a very competitive price point. If you’re an Android fanatic and are looking for a phone that delivers a premium performance this may just be the device for you.
